Pretty weird how some of our officials work. Yesterday, while I was driving with my friends in C5, I
accidentally beat the red light. I really did stop, honestly. But I guess I was driving a bit fast that it was too late for an early stop (Hope you got my point). So 5 officials stopped me, but only 2 approached my vehicle. One was talking while the other one was listening. So the guy talking said I did beat the red light. I replied that yes I did, but I stopped and it was just too late. He asked for my license. I was actually hesitant to give it but I did anyway. Most of the drivers would argue with the officials and even “negotiate” with them, but the sun has just rose and I wasn’t in the mood for any argument. It was okay for me na “ticketan” ako because it’s my fault and it’s their job. I only asked for one condition: issue me a ticket and I’ll pay through Metrobank. It’s easier than the one we grew up with (tubos yung driver’s license sa office). No need to “tubos” the driver’s license. He said okay.
Here’s the weird part. After a few minutes, he came back and gave my license back.
Warning na lang ma’am. I was stunned. I didn’t negotiate. I didn’t cry. I didn’t argue. I didn’t do anything. Whatheh happened! My friends and I were all thinking why. We all believed that it was because they thought I was going to "bargain" with them. Hell no! I’d rather pay through bank than pay them directly. It was my fault and as a responsible driver, I should know what I should do.
A very good lesson for me but a better lesson for people like those. There are some people who’d rather admit his/her fault than feed one’s corruption.
